Matt: Bad to Good to ‘Gorgeous’
“I need help, AI save me!”
Matt G., a consultant based in the Bay Area, wanted to update his living room, but wasn’t sure how (as evidenced by the direct quote above!)…
Matt started with the styles & colors he loved & loathed…
In terms of style, Matt told Desi how he…
loves Mid-century Modern
likes Scandi, Boho, Modern/Contemporary, Rustic, and Farmhouse
and dislikes Traditional, Industrial, and Minimalist looks
In terms of colors, Matt told Desi how he…
loves cool colors, esp. blue
likes neutrals, earth tones, and occasional warm colors
and hates bright/vivid colors
…and Desi took it from there
Based on only those short answers, Desi did a first pass and came up with this:
It was a decent start. “Yeah, I wouldn’t complain,” Matt said. But Desi actually loves client complaints, because Desi doesn’t want to stop until the client is delighted. When pressed, Matt clarified that Desi’s first-draft proposal “might be too cluttered in places and perhaps too much color variation but otherwise solid.” Desi heard him loud & clear, and iterated accordingly. A few moments later, the next version looked like this:
Cool bluescape? — check!
Less color & clutter? — check!
Mostly Midcentury Modern? — check!
Now Matt was delighted: “Much better.”
Desi had showed him how to make his living room “gorgeous.”
